Kolkata Metro services from 4 AM on June 21 for Yoga Day and NEET UG exams
A portion of a building’s roof collapsed near the Humayun’s Tomb complex in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area on Friday evening. Officials clarified that the incident occurred outside the premises of the historic monument. Emergency services were alerted at around 4:30 pm, initially on reports of a dome collapse, but later confirmed to be a nearby building’s roof giving way.
According to authorities, 10 to 12 people were rescued from the debris. “The SHO and local staff rushed to the spot within five minutes and started the rescue. In some time, Fire personnel and CATS ambulances also reached the spot. Later on, the NDRF also joined the rescue efforts,” the DCP (Southeast) said. Eyewitness Vishal Kumar, who works at Humayun’s Tomb, stated that staff and locals assisted in pulling out trapped individuals before authorities arrived.
Rescue operations are being jointly conducted by Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Services, and the National Disaster Response Force. Teams have cleared significant portions of the debris, with medical assistance provided to those injured. The exact number of injured persons and their conditions are yet to be confirmed.
The cause of the roof collapse has not been officially determined. Operations are ongoing in the area to ensure no one remains trapped under the debris. Further developments are awaited.
